How To Work Your Side Hustle While Working A Full Time Nursing Job

“If there’s a will, there’s a way. If it’s really important to you, you will make time for it and make it happen.”

Working a full-time nursing job can be physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausting, and if you want to start a side hustle to supplement your current income and plan make your side hustle your main hustle, starting your own business is the way to go.

As a nurse employee, you can work five 8 hour shifts per week, three 12 hour shifts per week, etc. If you look at it in terms of how much time off you have, you can set aside some time to start working on your side hustle.

Make a plan because if you fail to plan, you plan to fail

Before you start working on anything, create an action plan on how you will tackle your side hustle. Although you can just jump in, you can get lost easily, get distracted, get discouraged, and then quit. Make sure you have a plan so you can pace yourself, and you can also track your progress. Be flexible also just in case you need to change things along the way. Plan. Adapt. Keep going.

Start by working on your side hustle in 1 hour increments 2-3 days a week

This is not a big chunk of your time, but this is a start. Let’s say if you work 8 hour shifts 5 days a week, you have 2 off days and 1 work day (whichever you choose), pick a 1 hour block to work on your side hustle. Pick whatever time works for you. If you are more productive in the morning, pick a morning slot and vice versa.

Start performing 1 task a day that will contribute to your side hustle

Your side hustle should not be collecting dust on a shelf. You should be actively engaging in growing your side hustle daily. Even if it’s researching about your niche, working your social media accounts, posting a blog, or whatever you need to do, do at least 1 task a day. If you think about it, 1 task a day in a month is 30-31 tasks that you’ve completed towards your side hustle. In a year, that’s 365 tasks that you’ve accomplished toward the growth and success of your side hustle.

Get enough rest, eat well, exercise regularly, and take care of your health

Take care of your health because only you can maintain it. If you get sick, you can’t work at your job and your side hustle. You need to take care of yourself. Practice self-care routines that make you feel better about yourself.

Do not listen to others who do not believe in your dream

Only you can make your dreams come true and no one else. Do not listen to others who do not share the same vision as yours. The last thing you want now is to let someone stop you from achieving your goals and dreams. When you lie on your deathbed one day, will you look back with regret because you didn’t make things happen or will you be reminsicing on the times that you actually worked on making you and your dreams come true? Listen to yourself. Make your goals and dreams happen. You have nothing to lose.

Make quantitative, measurable goals to track your progress

When working on your goals, make sure that you track your progress. As you reach each milestone, you will be more motivated to keep going. It’s not just about the final destination that matters. It’s also the journey to get there.

Don’t let your discouragement stop you from your progress. Remain consistent.

Even if you don’t feel motivated all the time to work on your side hustle, that is perfectly fine. In fact, that is just being human. Despite having down days, you must keep going. You can take a small break here and there if you need it, but remember to still remain consistent and keep going. Don’t lose your momentum.

If you have a goal that you want to achieve, go for it. Make a plan of attack to get yourself prepared. Work on it slowly as your time allows slowly until you can do more. Track your progress with measurable milestones, and keep at it. Remain consistent. Don’t stop even if you get discouraged. Keep up the great work and I wish you the best. You can do it!
