How To Overcome Planning Paralysis and Get Things Done

What is the problems with planning? Planning is great, but if it remains in a planning state, it’s just another plan. Are you guilty of being such a great planner, but having difficulties executing your plans? You have “Overplanning syndrome”, which is planning too much that things do not get done. If you are caught up making with the perfect plan, you will never execute your plans. It sounds like a waste of time and energy if you think about it. But, how do you change that?

Stop Planning Too Much

What are the reasons why you keep on planning? Are you planning to make the perfect plan so you don’t miss anything? Do you do it just in case things do not work out? So what should I do about these plans? Do you continuously polish to make them perfect? That’s where the problem lies. Too much planning causes plans from not happening in the first place.  Plan accordingly but know that there will be times when you just have to do it and adjust as you continue.

Gather What You Need Prior To Starting

You have to make sure that when you start whatever project you pursue, whether it’s a new business or a new job, you have to make sure you have everything you need to do your part. If you are prepared and well-equipped, you are more likely to take the next step.

Take Too Long And You Will Never Start

If you take too long to plan, you will eventually lose motivation and will end up giving up, failing, then quitting. You will probably start feeling bad about yourself that you couldn’t do anything, when in fact, you have the ability to accomplish anything.

Don’t Worry About Other People, Think Of Yourself And How Awesome You Are

What many people consider a hindrance is all in their mind. If you want to start a project and came across someone already doing something similar, there’s a chance you may feel discouraged. An example is if you are starting a YouTube channel and realize your niche has tons of other YouTubers already making it. Think of it this way, if your niche has plenty of competition, there’s always room for you and your uniqueness. Fill a need and offer what you only you can give.

Great Starter, Average Midpoint, Poor Finisher

If you are full of ideas and start multiple projects all at once, you can stretch yourself thin to the point where you do not perform to your fullest potential. Multi-tasking can sometimes be helpful, but when starting anything, concentrate on one task at a time. A million things all at once can ruin you. Things will get confusing and overwhelming easily.

Distraction Is A Killer

Distractions are your biggest nemesis in life, whether it’s for work, your business, or your personal life. Distractions are everywhere, and you need to learn to maneuver around it.

There is no such thing as “the perfect plan”. There’s no way. It will take a long time to create the right plan. Even when you think you come up with one, something will happen and wash it all away. I’ve seen that too much in life already. The best way to deal with this is to create with the most important parts of the plan and build from that. Change things here and there, implement, and repeat the process all over again. Stay flexible and keep working at it. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. When you don’t execute your plan, you will fail regardless. What is it going to be?
